New Delhi, She is young with big dreams. A girl with a mission, inspired by Akshay Kumar to a large extent. If Khildai could do a Padman, she aspires to be  a Padwoman.

Taking first step towards her big dream, Aparna Lohmor, who studies in Class XII of  Mayo International School ( Patparganj, New Delhi)  decided to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene in her school to mark the Menstrual Hygiene Day.  For this she first conducted a survey on girls of class IX to XII, to assess their level of awareness and the practices of menstrual hygiene they adopt.

Aparna found that most  girls were practicing basic methods of hygiene, but many were not even aware of the fact that sanitary pads should be changed 3-4 times a day to avoid infections. Also, her survey revealed that many girls thought that menstrual blood was dirty.

The most surprising part of survey was that  many girls still believe that periods are inauspicious. And often these girls avoided school, sports, social functions as they were embarrassed about having periods.  Most of the girls, however, found school toilets convenient for changing pads.

With little initiative, Aparna has been successful in imparting knowledge to girls about the importance of menstrual hygiene & the long-term complications of unhygienic practices. Like a crusader, she has encouraged the girls to shun all social inhibitions associated with menstruation. She called upon the girls to feel confident and empowered about this issue and spread the same message to other girls in the society.
