New Delhi: Bagisha Tiwari, an 18-year-old medical candidate, jumped to her death from the ninth story of a multistory structure, a day after the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) results were made public, according to reports.
Tiwari, who was born in the Madhya Pradesh state of Rewa, had spent the previous year living in Kota with her mother and younger brother as she studied at a nearby coaching center for the NEET-UG exam.
Her brother is in Kota also, studying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), a class 11 student. Tiwari’s family resides on the fifth story of the building in the Jawahar Nagar neighborhood, where the horrific incident took place.
Tiwari is said to have leaped from the ninth-floor balcony on Wednesday at around 4 PM, according to Jawahar Nagar Police Station Circle Inspector Harinarayan Sharma. An hour later, she passed away from her wounds despite being sent to a private hospital nearby.
Since Tiwari’s sudden and extreme action lacked a clear purpose, the authorities are still looking into the specific justification for it. It is said that her mother was asleep in their apartment when the tragedy happened. When her father arrives, a postmortem will be performed on the body, which has been taken to the mortuary of Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital.
Suicide cases in Kota
As of January of this year, Kota, the coaching hub of India, has seen ten suspected cases of student suicide. The great stress that students experience when preparing for competitive exams was highlighted by the 26 suspected student suicides in 2022 that were reported to the city. These sad incidents keep happening, which emphasizes how urgently mental health problems must be addressed and sufficient support networks must be established for kids who are preparing for competitive exams.
