New Delhi: The World Muslim Community Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has published a book on Indian Islam, called ‘Theology, Jurisprudence and Contemporary Tradition: Indianization of Islam”.

In the book, it has been said to emphasize the regional forms of Islam and not accept just one form of it.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, the book discusses the ‘Arabization’ of the religion being projected as a ‘true’ representation of Islam.

Dr. Abbas Panakkal, Senior Researcher, Muslim Council said, “There are many difficulties in promoting Arab culture as Islam and accepting only one form of Islam”.

The book includes articles by Dr. Sebastian R. Pranz of the University of British Columbia, Dr. Moin Ahmed Nizami of the University of Oxford, and Dr. Faizan Mustafa of NALsar-University of Law, Hyderabad.

Dr. Sebastian R. Pranz has coined the term ‘Monsoon Islam’ in this book. This word reflects the diversity of Islam and religion. He invented this term keeping in mind the Arab traders who used to travel to South Asia following the direction of monsoon winds.

He has also mentioned in the book some temples of South India being worshiped by both Hindus and Muslims.

The Abu Dhabi-based Muslim Council believes that the Indian Islam model “can serve as a good example for many Muslim communities across the world.”
