New Delhi: The raging controversy over banning of hijab in Karnataka schools has reached the national capital as South Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has released an order prohibiting any kind of religious clothing in schools.

The chairperson of education committee of South Delhi MCD Nikita Sharma has written to concerned officials and asked them to ensure that no child comes to school in ‘religious attire’.

This comes days after a Class VI student’s parent complained to local MLA that his daughter was asked to remove her headscarf by her teacher. The matter pertained to a government school in Tukhmirpur.

Sharma, who is the councillor from Dwarka, said, “From time to time, the corporation keeps changing the colour of the uniform, due to which (uniform) there is no inferiority complex between the rich and poor children studying in school. It has been found recently that some parents send their children to school in religious attire, which is not right at all.”
