Harnaaz Sandhu: The third Miss Universe winner from India

New Delhi: The 21-year-old Harnaaz Sandhu has made the nation proud by bringing the Miss Universe crown home 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Sushmita Sen was the first to win the title while representing India in the 43rd Miss Universe pageant, held on 21 May 1994 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines. Sen defeated 77 contenders during the contest to win the crown.

She was followed by Lara Dutta at the 49th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Eleftheria Indoor Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus. Dutta was crowded slipping by 79 contestants.

The young Harnaaz, hailing from Chandigarh, has now joined the league of these incredible women by winning the 70th Miss Universe, held at Eilat, Israel.

However, when Sandhu entered the top 3 finalists on Sunday, a difficult question was obstacle in her way to win the title, wo which Harnaaz’s beautiful yet honest answer will win your heart.

During the final question and answer round, Sandhu was asked what advice would she give to young women on how to deal with the pressure they face today.

To this Sandhu replied, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that’s happening worldwide”.
