Dussehra is one of the biggest festivals of India and is also popularly known as Vijayadashami. It marks the victory of Lord Ram over Raavan and the city of Lanka. It signifies the triumph of good over evil across the country. It is also celebrated as Durga Puja and the day when Goddess Durga defeated Mahishasur – the buffalo king. The day is celebrated on a grand scale mainly in West Bengal and Mysore where the Goddess is paraded around the city and then immersed in water. On this day effigys of Raavan are also burnt down in honour of Lord Ram winning.
