New Delhi: With the coming of the IPL Mega auctions the story of CSK and Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again takes an interesting turn. According to the latest rules of retention released by BCCI, Dhoni can be retained by CSK as an ‘uncapped player’ for a nominal fee as low as 4 cr.

However, a recent report from Sports Tak claimed that Dhoni has not confirmed his availability till now. The former Indian skipper is however expected to meet CSK officials either on 29th or 30th October. Furthermore, the report also claimed that Dhoni has told the CSK management that he will not be available for meetings till October 28 and the decision on his retention will be taken after the discussion.

Chennai Super King’s CEO Viswanathan is confident that their “Thala” will return to the side for one last dance. In a recent interview, Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo that:

We have still no confirmation from him, though we will like him to continue playing for us. Hope he will confirm before 31st [October]…

Experts have predicted that if Dhoni confirms his availability, the franchise will most likely retain their superstar as an uncapped player in a very economical way. All IPL franchises are allowed to retain up to six players before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

When will the Mega auction take place for IPL 2025?
According to the latest reports, the BCCI is scheduled to host the mega auction for IPL 2025 in the third or fourth weekend of November.

Where will the Mega Auction for IPL 2025 take place?
Insider reports have confirmed that like last year, this year also the Mega Auction is once again set to take place overseas and a location in the Middle East is likely. Earlier, during the 2024 IPL auction, the bidding took place for the first time outside India. Now, another Gulf city could be chosen this time around such as Doha or Abu Dhabi.
