The official said that this lottery scheme has been conceived to encourage customers to ask for bill/receipt of every purchase from shops. This will help in preventing GST theft. There will be no such limit to participate in this lottery whether the receipt is of minimum or maximum amount.

How will you take advantage?

A first winner will be chosen in the lottery, with a big prize. The second and third winners will also be selected at the state level, to participate in this, consumers will have to scan and upload the receipt of any purchase. GST Network is developing a mobile app for this, the app will be available for Android and Apple users by the end of this month.

A Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Board official said last month that prizes ranging from Rs lakh to Rs 1 crore can be kept in this lottery. The GST Council can give its opinion on the scheme in the meeting of 14 March. The money from this lottery will come from fines in cases of profiteering, the GST Act provides for action against profiteering. In this, penalty money is kept in the Consumer Welfare Fund.
