Ayodhya Verdict Live: SC decrees Ram Mandir at disputed site, allots separate land for mosque

New Delhi, The Supreme Court of India will pronounce its historic verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute case today. The five-judge bench of the Supreme Court led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi is likely to pronounce judgment at 10:30 am today. Massive security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that there is no backlash after the verdict.

Here are all the live updates:

-Supreme Court’s verdict has come, we are in favour of the construction of Ram Temple. This judgement not only opened the doors for the temple’s construction but also closed the doors for BJP and others to politicise the issue: Randeep Surjewala, Congress.

-We will file a review petition if our committee agrees on it. It is our right and it is in Supreme Court’s rules as well: Zafaryab Jilani, All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

-Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Ayodhya Judgment: It is a landmark judgement. Appeal to public to maintain peace and calm.

-Iqbal Ansari, one of the litigants in Ayodhya case: I am happy that Supreme Court has finally delivered a verdict, I respect the judgement of the court.

-Kartik Chopra, spokesperson, Nirmohi Akhara: Nirmohi Akhara is grateful that SC has recognised our fight of last 150 years and has given the Nirmohi Akhara adequate representation in the trust to be set up by the Central Government to build & manage the Shri Ram Janmasthan Temple

-Zafaryab Jilani, Sunni Waqf Board Lawyer: We respect the judgement but we are not satisfied, we will decide further course of action.

Varun Kumar Sinha, Lawyer of Hindu Mahasabha: It is a historic judgement. With this judgement, the Supreme Court has given the message of unity in diversity.

-Vishnu Shankar Jain, Hindu Mahasabha Lawyer: Supreme Court has said,  ‘to give 5 acres alternate land to Muslims at a prominent place in Ayodhya.’

-Nirmohi Akhara to get representation in temple trust: SC

-Centre will hand over the disputed site to the Board of trustees and a suitable alternative plot of land measuring 5 acres at Ayodhya will be given to Sunni Waqf Board: SC

– Centre will formulate a scheme in three months to set up a board of trustees for construction of temple at the disputed structure, says Supreme Court.

-SC orders allotment of alternative land to Muslims for setting up of a mosque while decreeing the disputed site to deity

-SC says Allahabad High Court was wrong in dividing the disputed site into three parts

-The mosque was not abandoned by the Muslims. Though the Hindus continued to worship at Ram Chabutra but they claimed ownership on Garbh Garha also, says SC.

-It is clearly established that while Muslims offered prayers inside the inner courtyard, the same was done by Hindus in the outer courtyard: SC

-There is evidence that Ram Chabutra, Sita Rasoi was worshipped by the Hindus before the British came, says SC.

-Titles can’t be decided on faith and belief but on the claims, rules SC.

– Accounts of travellers and historians mention faith of Hindus that the place is birthplace of Lord Ram. The account of travellers has to be read with circumspection, SC says.

-Hindus have faith and belief that Lord Ram was born under the dome. Faith is a matter of individual belief, says CJI.

-Title of the land can be decided only on legal evidence, SC says.

– Archaeological Survey of India credentials are beyond doubt and the findings cannot be neglected, says CJI

-Nirmohi Akhara suit is not maintainable and it has no shebait rights (priestly rights), rules SC.

-Babri mosque was built by Mir Baqi. It is inappropriate for the Court to get into area of theology.
