New Delhi: MG Motors is set to launch Comet EV in India next month. With this second electric vehicle by MG, the automobile firm is expecting 30 percent of its sales to be generated by electric vehicles this year. The company currently has ZS EV in the market and is set to unveil the micro EV Comet.
MG Motors India’s President and MD Rajeev Chaba said that this year their 30 percent sales, which makes about 80,000 to 90,000 units, should come from the two EVs- ZS and Comet. The company has sold 10,000 units of ZS EV so far and has an objective to take the sales to 12,000 units per year. The firm has also intstalled a new manufacturing capacity in its Halol-based plant. Talking about the same, Chaba said that if things go in their favour, they could produce 80,000 to 1 lakh units in 2023 and about 1.2 lakh units in 2024.
For Comet EV, the auto company will look to produce 3,000 units per month.
The company is a rise in overall EV sales in the Indian market from 50,000 units last year to 1.2 lakh units this year. Rajeev Chaba also cited the global trends and told that EV sales comprise 30 percent share in the Chinese market, 20 percent in Europe and 10 percent in the USA.
Comet EV is a four-seater hatchback and will compete in the market with the likes of the Tata Tiago EV. The EV has a 17.3 kWh battery with 41.42 Bhp power and 7 hours of charging time. With an automatic gear facility, the EV can run 200-250 km with full charging. The estimated ex-showroom price for Comet EV is Rs 10 lakh and the car will be launched on April 26.
