New Delhi: With its release on 16th December 2022 in India and other parts of the world, Avatar: The Way of Water much like Avatar has garnered not just love but also box office numbers. The first Avatar movie is still known as the biggest film in history with $2.9 billion in global earnings, it is now intriguing to see how its sequel pans out. As of now James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water has earned more than $661.58 million at the worldwide box office, and about $27 million of that comes from the Indian markets.
Avatar: The Way of Water crossed the $500 million mark soon after a fantastic opening weekend of $441.6 million. As the numbers continue to grow, the film is estimated to cross its $700 million mark soon. Despite its good numbers, it is termed underwhelming compared to its ‘highest ever grossing’ predecessor. Even then the film is moving toward the $1 billion target and whether or not it’ll hit, only time will tell.
Nearly $463.90 million of the collection comes from International circuits. The film is yet to touch the $200 million mark in its domestic market. But the makers remain hopeful of the film picking up again during the Christmas weekend. Whether or not the Christmas rush will contribute to making this sequel as successful as its predecessor the coming days will reveal. Till then, a lot of us wait for this giant of a film to hit the OTTs.
