New Delhi: Argentine star footballer Lionel Messi addressed the press before the first game of the ongoing FIFA World Cup against Saudi Arabia. Messi announced that this might be his last World Cup and the last chance to lift the trophy. While his fans want him to play for a longer period of time, the 35-year-old forward does not have age by his side.

At the press conference, he said that earlier the World Cup was held after the season ended and there was a month of time to prepare for the tournament. This time, the players did not get time to prepare for the World Cup and the team has to play the first game really quickly. He said that playing at this stage is a great feeling. Messi dropped a bomb by stating that the Qatar World Cup is most likely his last one, which means this is the last opportunity to achieve his dream. He said that we just have to try and go for the win, also many people who are not even Argentine are rooting for us and have supported me throughout my career.

The Argentine captain also told that the players who will be playing their first World Cup game are a little bit anxious and nervous. He also dismissed rumours about his fitness and said that his missing some parts of the training was just precautionary and nothing extraordinary.

Messi has won seven Ballon d’Or titles, one FIFA World Cup Golden Ball and played in the World Cup finals in 2014. In the 2022-23 season, Messi is back in form and has scored 12 goals in 19 appearances for PSG.
