New Delhi: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has entered the finals of Singapore Open 2022, and now she is just a win away from her maiden Super 500 title this season. Sindhu faced world number 38 Saena Kawakami from Japan in the semi-final. The two-times Olympics medallist sailed through a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Japanese shuttler.

Sindhu entered the match with a 2-0 head-to-head score against Kawakami. She looked quick and comfortable as the game started. The Indian shuttler kickstarted with a 3-0 lead against her opponent. Kawakami tried to make a comeback, but Sindhu’s smashes were just good enough to get her a victory with a score of 21-15. The second game of the match was clearly one-sided. Sindhu started off with a 5-0 lead and extended it to 11-4 before the break. With eight consecutive points after the break, Sindhu claimed an easy victory with a score of 21-7.

Sindhu will face the winner of the second semi-final between Aya Ohori and Wang Zhiyi. Ohori defeated India’s star shuttler Saina Nehwal in the quarter-finals. World number 7 and India number 1, PV Sindhu has already clinched two Super 300 titles at Syed Modi International and Swiss Open this year.

To date, for India, only Sai Praneeth in Men’s Singles (2017) and Saina Nehwal in Women’s Singles (2010) have managed to win the title at the Singapore Open. If Sindhu wins the title, she will be only the third Indian shuttler to do it at Singapore Open Super 500.

Sindhu looks in a good shape after a comfortable victory and she will be the favourite to win as she is the third seed in the tournament.
