New Delhi: As the race to don UK Prime Minister’s crown picks pace, caretaker PM Boris Johnson has reportedly asked his allies to back ‘anyone but Rishi Sunak’.

If reports are to be believed, former chancellor Sunak is said to be blamed for former PM Johnson losing the support of his own party colleagues, who is now asking Tory leadership candidates to not extend support to Sunak.

For the unknown, Johnson had resigned on July 7 as the leader of ruling Conservative Party.

According to news agency PTI, Johnson has been in talks with foreign secretary Liz Truss lately, who is also said to have the support of his cabinet allies Nadine Dorries and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Previously, Johnson had told the media that he won’t be endorsing any candidates or interfere in the contest in any other way. Though the recent reports suggests that the latter has been holding conversations with the failed contestants to stop Sunak from becoming the first ever Indian-origin chief of the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, former chancellor Rishi Sunak also landed in soup last week as one of his controversial remark went viral on social media, which is reportedly made in a two-decade-old clip, wherein he could be heard saying that he “doesn’t have working-class friends”.

“I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper-class, I have friends who are, you know, working-class,” then 21 years old Rishi Sunak had said in a BBC documentary dated back in 2001. “Well, not working-class”, he elaborated.

42-years-old Rishi Sunak came into spotlight during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic for providing a massive package to help bussiness in the country. Sunak has also served as the Finance Minister in Boris Johnson cabinet.
