Maharashtra Floor Test: Eknath Shinde-Led Govt wins Trust Vote in Assembly

New Delhi: Newly appointer Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today proved his government’s majority in the Assembly following a vote by head count.

Over 164 votes were polled in favour of Eknath Shinde, while 99 votes were polled against the newly formed BJP-Shinde camp coalition.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with 39 other MLAs rebelled against his Shiv Sena was scheduled to prove majority today in the Maharashtra Assembly.

This comes a day after BJP’s Rahul Narvekar was elected as the Speaker of the House with over 140 votes.

Meanwhile, Chief whip of the Shiv Sena – Eknath Shinde faction- Bharat Gogawale has given a petition to the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker for the suspension of 16 party MLAs of the Uddhav Thackeray faction for violation of whip.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led camp of Shiv Sena approached the Supreme Court challenging the newly appointed Maharashtra Assembly Speaker’s recognition of the whip of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde group as the whip of Shiv Sena.
