New Delhi: In the initial trends for Haryana civic poll results, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken lead while the new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also opened its account. Counting is currently underway for elections in 18 municipal councils and 28 municipalities.

The Haryana civic polls saw a close contest between BJP-Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) alliance and the Congress.

The AAP, which contested civic body poll for the first time, opened its account by winning Ismailabad Municipal committee post. While BJP has won the Assembly elections in Haryana for two times in a row, the AAP is aiming to expand its footprints beyond Delhi and Punjab. It is also an attempt by the party to test the political waters in state and read the undercurrent ahead of 2024 Assembly elections.

AAP had contested the 2019 Assembly elections in Haryana but it fell flat on the ground and got 0.48% total vote share.

The June 19 elections saw turnout of 70% of voters. Congress, erstwhile a formidable force in Haryana, refrained from fighting the battle and didn’t field its candidates. However, many party candidates entered the fray as Independent candidates.
