New Delhi: In the scorching heat of the city, Qaiser Jahan runs a vegetable cart in the narrow streets of the artillery market of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Her cart was a little crowded before the Friday prayers, when her daughter Mumtaz Khan scored a goal in the 11th minute of the game, overtaking South Korea’s goalkeeper in the Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup to be played in Potchefstroom.

This goal from Mujtaz laid the foundation for India’s victory in the quarter-final match of the tournament, wherein India defeated Korea 3-0. The Indian women’s hockey team has now reached the semi-finals for the second time in this competition.

Though Qaiser could not see this miracle of her daughter in the World Cup, Mumtaz was awarded the player of the match title for his excellent performance.

However, the mother does not regret seeing her daughter playing. Kaiser Jahan believes that there will be many more such occasions in the future when she will see her daughter scoring goals.

While talking to the English daily Indian Express, Qaiser Jahan said, “It was a busy time for me. I would have loved to see my daughter scoring goals. But I also have to earn a living. I hope there will be many more such occasions in the future when I will see my daughter scoring goals.”

3rd player to score most goals

Mumtaz Khan has scored 6 goals in the Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup so far. She is the third player to score the most goals in this competition. She scored in India’s opening match against Wales
