New Delhi: Ahead of the 2022 Punjab assembly polls, Punjabi Singer Sidhu Moose Wala joined the Congress party on Friday in presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress Committee president Navjot Singh Sidhu in Chandigarh.
After joining the Congress party, Sidhu Moose Wala said that one of the reasons to join Congress is to “raise the voice of Punjabis”.
However, the singer have courted several controversies in past including one of his Punjabi song titled “Punjab (Motherland)” released in year 2020, in which Moosewala allegedly hailed Khalistani leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his aides.
The song begins with Bharpoor Singh Balbir’s speech marking the need for political power for the Sikh community. The beggining of the song is then followed by an old footage of Bhindranwale along with his aides walking pay obeisance at Sri Harmandar Sahib.
The controversial lyrics from the song are as follows:
“Keh Keh K Badle Lainda, Mainu Punjab Kehande aa
Delhi Vee Nap Lainda, Mainu Punjab Kehande aa”
