New Delhi: Striking a new row during campaigning of UP Assembly polls, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that Muhammad Ali Jinnah fought for India’s independence.

While addressing the rally in Hardoi on Sunday (October 31) Yadav spoke about Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Jinnah in the same breath citing that they all became barristers after studying in the same place- a reference to the UK.

He was speaking on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, he contended that they all struggled for an independent India.

Following this, Uttar P BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh questioned Akhilesh Yadav on why he had praised Jinnah.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that the SP supremo was indulging in appeasement politics.

Yadav’s comment comes days after UP CM Yogi Adityanath warned that those who celebrated Pakistan’s recent victory against India in the T20 Cricket World Cup will be booked under the sedition law.
