New Delhi: After an aggressive encounter in the 2nd test match at Lord’s, English pacer Anderson bounced back and demolished the Indian top-order completely. Dismissing KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara in quick succession, Anderson edged Indian skipper Virat Kohli into the Buttler’s hand.
On the final delivery of the 11th over, Virat went for a cover drive but only managed to get an outside edge. Counted among the best batsmen to ever grace the game, Virat Kohli has now gone past 50 innings in international cricket without scoring a century.
His last international ton came way back in 2019 during the day-night Test against Bangladesh and on this tour, the Indian skipper is yet to touch the 50-run mark. 0, 20 and 42 and 7 have been Kohli’s scores on the tour so far.
Watching some unexpected and underdeliver performance of the Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels that he needs to give Sachin Tendulkar a call. Gavaskar believes that Kohli is needs to avoid playing the cover drive in order to come out of this rough patch.
Commenting on Virat’s performance Gavaskar from the commentary said that the initial back and across movement is not helping Virat while England captain Joe Root’s shuffle across the stumps allows him to stay middle-leg in his stance just before the bowler is about to deliver the ball.
He explained that Kohli’s shuffle is taking him further close to the off-stump when the bowler comes to deliver the ball.
Gavaskar advised Kohli that, He should give a quick call to Tendulkar and ask him what should I do? He should try what Sachin did at Sydney, ask himself that I am not going to play the cover drive.
This is a bit of a worry for me as he is getting dismissed at the 5th, 6th, and even 7th stump, and where in 2014 he was getting out more around the off-stump, Gavaskar added.
