New Delhi: The IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals has been postponed after two staff members of CSK tested positive for COVID-19. As a prevention to spread the virus any further, a Chennai official reckoned that the franchise is planning to go under quarantine and hence has decided to not play their next match against Rajasthan Royals.
Two non-playing members of CSK contingent- Bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji, and a bus cleaner tested positive while the reports of playing staff came back negative after the tests were conducted on Sunday.
In a similar situation, BCCI officials called off the Monday’s match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Ahmedabad after two players of KKR got infected with the virus. BCCI also asked Delhi Capitals (DC) to go under quarantine as they played their last game against KKR on Thursday.
According to the BCCI’s stringent Covid norms- everyone who has come in contact with an infected person will have to go under a six-day quarantine. Due to this, CSK’s next match with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Delhi is also doubtful as it clashes with the six-day quarantine of Chennai.
Even after this sudden emergence of the COVID-19 patients in the bubble, BCCI has mentioned that the tournament cannot be stopped midway. But there are reports that say IPL may completely shift to Mumbai due to the rising COVID-19 concerns.
