Coronavirus Pandemic: India surpasses Brazil to become 2nd worst-hit nation by COVID-19

New Delhi: Despite a lengthy lockdown which was intended to curb the COVID-19 virus, the coronavirus pandemic is getting more serious with each passing day.

The number of coronavirus infections is rising at an alarming rate in India with thousands falling victim to the COVID-19 virus every day. The situation has become so dangerous that the number of coronavirus patients is rising by over 1,00,000 every two days as daily spikes of over 50,000 COVID-19 infections are coming to light for more than a month now. Over the last few days, the coronavirus pandemic has gathered even more pace as the number of COVID-19 cases is rising by more than 80,000 daily.

Over the last two days, the number of new COVID-29 cases has risen by over 90,000.

The daily rise in fresh coronavirus cases is setting new records every day as the COVID-19 virus continues to play havoc.

In terms of the daily rise in the number of COVID-19 cases is concerned, India has now surpassed even the United States, which has been the worst affected by the coronavirus pandemic among the major countries.

The coronavirus pandemic in India currently seems to be at its worst, as the country’s trajectory of daily cases continued to be the highest-ever recorded globally since the start of the health crisis in December 2019.

With the highest single-day spike of 90,802 cases, India’s Covid-19 tally on Monday crossed the 42 lakh mark and the country surpassed Brazil to become the second worst-hit nation after the US.

Out of the total 4,204,613 cases, 8,82,542 are active, 32,50,429 have recovered, while 71,642 lost the battle against the deadly virus, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare showed.

In the last 24 hours, 69,564 patients have recuperated.

While the recovery rate was at a whopping high of 77.32 per cent, the fatality rate has come down to 1.72 per cent.

India has added almost two lakh cases in two days.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 8,83,862 cases wit 26,276 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, and Bihar.

According to data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted a record 7,20,362 tests in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 4,95,51,507.
