New Delhi: Today, record number of coronavirus cases have come to light in India. Although many countries of the world are currently engaged in coming up with the coronavirus vaccine, it seems that after Russia, the US will manage to accomplish the feat.

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has asked state public health officials to prepare to distribute potential coronavirus vaccines to high-risk people by the end of October.

The coronavirus vaccine’s arrival at this time also has political significance, as US President Donald Trump will be running for re-election in November. Even after spending billions of dollars promising to develop a vaccine to stop COVID-19, coronavirus has killed more than 180,000 people in the US.

“For the purpose of initial planning, the CDC worked on state-specific plans for vaccine delivery to states with certain planning assumptions, including possibly limited amounts of vaccines in October and November,” a CDC spokesman stated.

The New York Times had previously reported that the CDC contacted officials in all 50 states and five large cities with information on the plan.

Documents put online by the New York Times suggest that CDC is preparing one or two coronavirus vaccines for COVID-19 that will be available in limited quantities by the end of October. The documents state that the vaccines will first be provided free of charge to high-risk people, including health services, national security personnel, and nursing home residents and employees.

Preliminary results from a survey conducted in the last three months in 19 countries showed that only 70% of British and Americans would take the COVID-19 vaccine. Drug developers including Modern Inc., AstraZeneca PLC and Pfizer Inc. are in the race to develop a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine.

Two coronavirus vaccines have been written in the CDC documents, which should be kept at a temperature of minus 70 and minus 20 degrees Celsius. They are being manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna.
