New Delhi: Addressing the nation on Friday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to stand united in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Thanking the people for displaying discipline and patience during the ongoing 21-day nationwide coronavirus lockdown, PM Modi called for a mass display of solidarity.

PM Modi urged the people to switch off all the lights in their homes for nine minutes at 9 PM on April 5 and light candles, lamps or torches at their doorsteps or balconies.

“I request all of you to switch off all the lights of your house on 5th April at 9 PM for 9 minutes, and just light a candle, ‘diya’, or mobile’s flashlight, to mark our fight against coronavirus,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi made this appeal through a short video, which was released on Friday morning.

“I also appeal to people to avoid gathering anywhere during this period. You don’t have to go out on the streets and in the colonies, but do it from your doorsteps and balconies,” he added.
