New Delhi, The death toll of children continue to rise in Bihar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and the administration appears to be helpless.
Dr. Shailesh Prasad Singh, Civil Surgeon, Muzaffarpur said, “Death toll rises to 69 due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES). 58 died at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital and 11 at Kejriwal Hospital.”
The news of intriguing deaths of more than 70 children in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur is spreading like fire and is alarming the administration as well as the medicos.
The apparent reason as told by doctors is Encephalitis, which is a viral infection which causes mild flu-like symptoms such as high fever, convulsions, and headaches.
According to a report in Times of India this deadly brain disease which is very similar to the symptoms of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and is strangely linked to a toxic substance found in litchi which is grown in abundance during summers in the Northern part of Bihar.
The coincidence cannot be ignored as all those who have been afflicted by this disease belong to the economically weaker section of the society. According to TOI, the victims were found roaming in the litchi orchards and eating litchi early in the morning on empty stomach.
