The stand-off between the world’s sole superpower and its Asian rival will most likely cause a price rise for products like toys, clothes, electronics, etc aprt from China made goods exported to the US.
The US government is mulling over a suggestion to hike trade tariffs on products imported from China.
HSBC has also expressed concerns over the ongoing uncertain situation and expects Apple to further jack up prices of iPhones in the USA in case the new import tariffs on goods shipped from China is implemented.
Apple has two options before it. It can either increase the price of its iconic iPhones and thus pass on the burden of the increased import tariff directly to the consumers. It can also choose to absorb the entire burden and thus reduce its earnings forecast for 2020.
A report by ‘The Street’ suggests that the price of iPhones may see a hike of $160 or around Rs 12,000. The increased prices in the USA will also lead to an upward jump of iPhones prices in India.
