New Delhi: ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 saw its first nail-biting thriller when South Africa defeated Pakistan with 1 wicket to spare in an Intense encounter at Chenni’s M. A Chidambram Stadium on Friday.
Post the Proteas team’s exciting victory over men in green, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj thanked lord Hanuman and wrote ” In God I Trust what a special result by the boys, awesome to see the performances from Shamsi & Aiden Markram. Jai Shree Hanuman” on his Instagram handle.
Keshav also praised his fellow teammates Tabrez Shamsi and Aiden Markeen for their exceptional performances that snatched the victory from Babar’s team and left them on the verge of getting eliminated from the tournament.
While chasing the tricky target of 271, the team in green and gold started off well but soon found itself in trouble after Pakistani bowlers took back-to-back wickets and brought their side back into the game. By the time Maharaj and his partner Shamshi came to bat, both the dressing rooms were tensed out as South Africa needed 10 more runs but they couldn’t afford to lose even a single wicket.
With Both tailenders out in the middle, Pak Bowlers needed just one more strike to claim their third consecutive victory over South Africa in the ODI World Cups. However, Keshav along with Shamsi didn’t let that happen and finally, with a 4 towards the square leg, the former made his team cross the line and register its 5th victory of the World Cup 2023.
On the other hand, the Pakistani side was left devastated as they had to face their fourth consecutive loss in the tournament despite fighting so hard with the South Africans.
The historic triumph over Pakistan has now taken the South African team to the top of the points table while India has slipped to the second position with equal points but a lower net run rate.
