New Delhi: Shubman Gill, the star batsman of Team India is all set to miss the second game in ODI Cricket World Cup, slated for October 11.
The explosive batsman already missed India’s opening fixtures against Australia in Chennai’s Chidabaram stadium, as he was afflicted with dengue and getting treatment for the same.
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) shared an official statement on its X handle to inform that he will stay back in Chennai and won’t travel to Delhi.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023,” BCCI said.
Previously, Shubman also missed India’s opening encounter against Australia which was played in Chennai’s P Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. In his absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan got a chance to open for team India alongside skipper Rohit Sharma.
However, Ishan failed to grab the opportunity to showcase his talent and lost his wicket early on Mitchell Starc’s delivery without scoring a single run.
While captain Rohit and Shreyas Iyer also left Team India in trouble by walking back to the dugout for ducks, run machine Virat Kohli 85 (116) along with reliable KL Rahul 97* (115) stitched a match-defining partnership that turned the tide in India’s favor and helped the men in blue get their first victory of the tournament by defeating Australia with 6 wickets.
India to take on Afghanistan
Rohit & Co. are all set to take on Afghanistan in second fixture of the tournament which will be played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on 11th October.
In last night match with Australia, India’s spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin showcased their exceptional bowling skills and wrapped up the Australian innings on a score of 199 (49.3).
