Opinion Polls suggest close contest in Chhattisgarh, Cong-BRS face-off in Telangana & hung house in Mizoram

New Delhi: The announcement of Assembly election dates in five states by the Election Commission has set the stage for high-decibel campaign in coming days and a fierce face-off between parties for ascending to power.

In first election results prophesy after dates announcement, the Opinion polls suggest tough contest in Chhattisgarh, Congress & BRS engaged in neck & neck fight and hung house in Mizoram.

Chhattisgarh poll projection:
According to ABP-CVoter survey, Chhattisgarh will see a close contest between the ruling Congress and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Opinion poll sees Cong fetching vote of 45% while BJP coming close second at 43%, an upsurge of 8% since past election.

Other parties are projected to secure 11% of votes in the ensuing elections.

In the 90 member Assembly, the saffron party is expected to win anywhere between 39-35 seats while Congress is seen taking a slight edge with 45-51 seats. Others may be rounded up with 0-2 seats.

Cong-BRS to fight it out in Telangana
The ABP-CVoter survey forecasts a tough ride for the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) as Cong is likely to spoil its poll trajectory, this time. Congress is seen emerging as largest party with 39% vote share (a upswing of 10.5%) while the ruling BRS may settle at 37% votes. BJP is also projected to gain 16% vote share (upsurge of over 9%)

Translating vote percentage into seats would mean BRS securing 43 to 55 seats, while Congress moving ahead with 48 to 60 seats. BJP is forecasted to win seats in single digits i.e. from 5 to 11.

Mizoram: Hung house likely
The ABP-CVoter Survey sees Mizoram heading for a hung house as no party is expected to get majority on its own.

Notably, the Assembly elections in five states will begin from November 7 and continue till November 30. Chhattisgarh will vote in 2 phases – Nov 7 & 17. These elections are seen as acid test for INDIA bloc alliance and also semi-final clash ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
