New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the ASHA and Anganwadi workers and health beneficiaries via video conference this morning, as part of Poshan-Maah. Poshan Maah, the month devoted to nutrition, is being celebrated this September with an aim to reach every household in the country with the message of the importance of optimum nutrition.

“Initially, an ASHA worker used to visit a baby 6 times in 42 days after his/her birth, now we have increased that time to 15 months. ASHA worker will visit the baby for 11 times in these 15 months,” said PM Narendra Modi during an interaction with ASHA, ANM & Anganwadi workers.

PM Modi further added, “The government has focussed on aspects relating to nutrition and quality healthcare. Vaccination efforts are on at a fast pace.  It is important to involve maximum number of women and children in this movement.”

The initiative aims to further strengthen the objectives of Poshan Abhiyaan, the National Nutrition Mission, set up by the Government last November. Under POSHAN Abhiyaan, the Government has fixed targets to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anemia among young children, women and adolescent girls, and reduce low birth weight by 2 to 3 per cent per annum.

The Prime Minister’s interaction will bring together various stakeholders involved in the mission. It will also become a platform for sharing and dissemination of success stories in the area of nutrition.
