Gullak OTT Release: Fans of heartfelt family dramas have reason to celebrate as the fifth season of Gullak is officially gearing up for its much-awaited OTT release.
Over the years, the beloved series has earned immense popularity for its realistic storytelling, relatable middle-class family moments, emotional warmth, and subtle humor that resonates deeply with audiences across generations.
This series will stream it’s fifth season exclusively on SonyLiv from June 5th.
Gullak beautifully captures the everyday life of the Mishra family, a simple middle-class household living in a small town in India. Rather than relying on grand drama or larger-than-life conflicts, the series focuses on ordinary moments, small struggles, family arguments, emotional bonds, and the little joys that define middle-class family life.
At the center of the story is the Mishra family — Santosh Mishra, a hardworking government employee trying to manage financial responsibilities with limited income; his practical and caring wife Shanti, who keeps the household running smoothly; and their two sons, Annu and Aman, whose personalities and ambitions constantly create humorous clashes within the family.
The series explores relatable situations such as rising expenses, career worries, sibling rivalries, neighborhood gossip, parental expectations, household budgeting, and the emotional challenges of growing up in a middle-class environment. Despite financial limitations and everyday frustrations, the family remains deeply connected through love, humor, and shared experiences.
One of the show’s most unique storytelling elements is its narration style. The story is told from the perspective of the family’s old gullak — a traditional piggy bank quietly sitting inside the house. The gullak acts as a symbolic observer that has witnessed years of memories, sacrifices, arguments, dreams, and emotional moments shared by the family. Through its narration, the series presents everyday incidents with warmth, nostalgia, and emotional depth.
The piggy bank becomes more than just an object; it represents the emotional savings of the family — not only money collected over time, but also memories, life lessons, relationships, and struggles carefully stored within the walls of their home.
Blending gentle humor with heartfelt storytelling, Gullak portrays how ordinary families find happiness in small victories and continue supporting one another despite life’s difficulties. The show highlights themes of family bonding, financial responsibility, generational differences, ambition, and emotional resilience while maintaining a deeply realistic and comforting tone.
