New York [US]: US President Joe Biden spoke of nuclear \u201cArmageddon\u201d in a warning about the escalation in Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine during a speech on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Biden warned of the \u201cassault\u201d on American institutions and talked of the threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin using nuclear weapons, at the New York home of James Murdoch, the son of media baron Rupert Murdoch.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis,\u201d Biden said in New York City.<\/p>\n
At a fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Biden said Putin is \u201cnot joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.\u201d This is because, Biden said, \u201chis military is \u2014 you might say \u2014 significantly underperforming.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m trying to figure out, what is Putin\u2019s off-ramp?\u201d Biden said. \u201cWhere does he find a way out? Where does he find himself in a position that he does not only lose face but lose significant power within Russia?\u201d<\/p>\n
According to a pool report, Biden told attendees at the event, \u201cI don\u2019t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Putin has renewed his nuclear threats as he announced the annexation of Ukrainian territory, some of which Russia doesn\u2019t control, and with the call-up of 300,000 reservists to reinforce his flagging invasion.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had threatened to use a nuclear weapon in Ukraine if Russian \u201cterritorial integrity\u201d, sparking deep discussion in the West.<\/p>\n
