The police claimed that in 2018, the architect and his mother had committed suicide as they were upset over the non-payment of dues by Republic TV.<\/p>\n<p>In May this year, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had announced that he had ordered a fresh inquiry into the case following a complaint by Adanya Naik, the daughter of architect Anvay Naik.<\/p>\n<p>Deshmukh said that Adanya alleged that the Alibaug police did not investigate Arnab Goswami&#8217;s channel for not paying dues, which she claimed caused her father and grandmother to commit suicide in May 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the claim of non-payment of dues, Republic TV said in a statement that the full amount had been paid.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar called it an &#8220;attack on freedom of the press&#8221; in Maharashtra and said it reminded him of the Emergency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mumbai:\u00a0The Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami for alleged involvement in the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer in 2018.
