Islamabad: In a recent post on social media Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, reiterated Islamabad\u2019s unwavering support for China\u2019s stance on Taiwan.<\/p>\n
He reaffirmed the country\u2019s commitment to the \u2018One China\u2019 policy, considering Taiwan an integral part of the People\u2019s Republic of China.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs an iron-brother and a strategic partner of China, Pakistan has always extended its principled support to the Chinese position on Taiwan and will continue to do so. Pakistan adheres to \u2018One China\u2019 policy, regards Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People\u2019s Republic of China and supports the Chinese government\u2019s efforts for national reunification. The so-called elections or transition of the self-proclaimed government in Taiwan do not change the objective facts on the Taiwan issue,\u201d said Shehbaz in a post on X.<\/p>\n
Pakistan\u2019s vocal endorsement of China\u2019s position on Taiwan comes amidst growing global attention on the Taiwan Strait tensions and heightened diplomatic manoeuvers surrounding the island\u2019s status.<\/p>\n
With geopolitical complexities shaping regional dynamics, Pakistan\u2019s reaffirmation of solidarity with China underscores the significance of alignment within the broader context of international relations.<\/p>\n
China on Friday warned the US that efforts toward \u201cTaiwan\u2019s independence\u201d are a \u201cdead end\u201d and \u201cwill only backfire\u201d after an unnamed US official urged Beijing to exercise restraint over the cross-strait situation.<\/p>\n
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a regular media briefing on Friday said, \u201cThere will be a dead end for those who engage in \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019, and to connive support for \u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 will only backfire.\u201d<\/p>\n
Notably, Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory and has threatened force to control it.<\/p>\n
According to a media report, PM Shehbaz is set to visit China in the initial week of the upcoming month to participate in the official commencement of the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.<\/p>\n
