More than 15,000 COVID-19 cases in India as coronavirus pandemic weakens

New Delhi: Coronavirus vaccination will start in the country from January 16. Although the coronavirus pandemic has weakened a bit in the new year, the figure of daily increase in COVID-19 infections remains at around 15 thousand daily.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in the country in the last 24 hours after the COVID-19 15,968 new cases came to 1,04,95,147.

With this, after 202 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country has increased to 1,51,529. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country still remains at 2,14,507 and the total number of discharged cases is 1,01,29,111.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 18,34,89,114 sample tests for coronavirus have been done in India till yesterday (12 January), of which 8,36,227 samples have been done on Tuesday.

India’s COVID-19 tally crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It crossed the 60 lakh mark on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and one crore on December 19.

There have been a total of 1,51,160 deaths in the country so far, of which 50,061 from Maharashtra and 12,140 from Karnataka, 12,222 from Tamil Nadu, 10,678 from Delhi, 9,941 from West Bengal, 8,495 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,129 from Andhra Pradesh and 5,445 from Punjab.

The Ministry of Health insisted that more than 70 percent of deaths were due to serious illness.

“Our data is being harmonized with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website.
