New Delhi: Rohit Sharma-led team India started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a high note by handing over Ireland a crushing 8-wicket victory in their first clash of the tournament at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

A day before the Men in Blue’s thumping victory, cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra, in his talk show Aakashwani, made brave remarks about Indian All-Rounder Ravindra Jadeja, raising questions on his batting position and ability to finish matches, which according to him is one of the key concerns for the men in blue during the World Cup.

While hosting #AAKASHVANI, Aakash Chopra said “Ravindra Jadeja is not your finisher. We trust him in that role, but he is not very good at it. We have not even accepted the fact that he is not a good finisher and that is a problem.”

Team India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, playing against Pakistan in the final under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Since then the Indian team’s cabinet has been empty. However, in the year 2014, India played in the final of the T20 World Cup but lost the decider to Sri Lanka.

Ravindra Jadeja in T20s

In the past few years The Men In Blue’s performance has been concerning in ICC events’ knockout games, constantly raising questions on the management and the players.

Although the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has performed well for the country in ODI’s and Tests, he is yet to prove himself in the shortest format of the game.

Jadeja has so far scored 480 runs in 36 innings across 66 matches with an average of 22.85 and a strike rate of over 125, his highest score being 46 not out against England. Additionally, in the warm-up game against Bangladesh Jadeja only managed to score 4 runs out of 6 deliveries failing to hit a single boundary.
